Monday Mocha

MONDAY MOCHA WITH CURTIS WONG

Just when you thought The Ginni Show was over for another season, I surprise you with yet another Monday Mocha. YAY! Well technically, the Wednesday part of the show will return in July 2017, but we still have quite a few Monday Mocha’s up our sleeves. So in episode two, I took a trip to Huffington Post Headquarters where I caught up with Executive Editor Noah Michelson. Taking yet another trip back, I caught up with Senior Editor Curtis Wong. What I love about Curtis is he is so wonderfully genuine in how he answers his questions. I love chatting with him because I learn so much and look at life in a different way. The man has also met Madonna. Just saying.

“With as many friendships as you leave behind, you gain new ones.”

MONDAY MOCHA WITH SILKE BADER

This Monday Mocha is a little closer to home. Literally. When I was in my early to late teens and growing in self awareness and learning about myself, it wasn’t just Queer As Folk that shone some light on the parts of me that I darkened. I used to hide underneath the covers reading LGBT magazines and newspapers. LOTL was one of those publications – headed up by Silke Bader – ranked the eight most powerful lesbian in the world by CLEO. A powerhouse publisher, event planner and equality advocate here in Australia, it’s an honour to have a mocha with yet another person who’s indirectly had some influence in shaping who I was today.

“When friendships are no longer give and take, when it’s heading only in one direction, you realise who you can turn to for support, and who you can give support to.”

MONDAY MOCHA WITH PETER PAIGE

On the eight Monday Mocha show, we still continue in Hollywood and chat to someone who has left a heart print on my journey. I first caught a glimpse of him on Showtime’s Hit Series, “Queer As Folk,” where he played the character Emmett Honeycutt.  From there, Peter Paige has gone on to be one of the creators and writer’s for the ABC’s hit show, The Fosters. One of the many many things I love about Peter is the fact that he always makes time to connect with you. A lot of people reach out to him about the art he creates and how it has impacted their lives – I was one of those people and am better for it. A very special Monday Mocha.

“Connection is more important than ever at this moment in time. Despite the fact that we are tapped into the internet, in some ways we are less connected. It’s important for me to share a meaningful moment with someone.”

MONDAY MOCHA WITH LIZ VASSEY

On the seventh Monday Mocha show, we head to the Hollywood Hills and chat to long time actress, Liz Vassey. I first watched her as “Lou,” on Brotherly Love and since then she has graced our scenes playing many a character in Nikki & Nora, CSI and Two and A Half Men to name a Few.

“Sometimes the best relationships aren’t the longest. You come into this world, find your tribe and sometimes you learn what you’re supposed to learn. As long as you’re acting the way you think is best and are good to others.”

This week, we hit the Hollywood Hills to chat to actress and writer Liz Vassey. Currently, Liz is crowd funding for her latest project – The Human Race Documentary. She is nearly at her goal. Click here to support her.

MONDAY MOCHA WITH TODD SEARS

It’s the sixth Monday Mocha podcast show. I have loved the diversity in guests that I’ve had the honour of spending time with.  One of the reasons why I wanted to start this particular series is to help change the attitude and resistance we have towards Monday which is essentially the mentality we go into the week with. By chatting to an inspiring individual, taking time out to have a coffee or a break – it’s a good way to ease into your week.

“I think friendships can be cyclical based off where you are in your life. True friends understand how I care about them. You may not see them for weeks at a time, but you pick up where you left off. “

This week, we take a trip into the finance world and take a trip down Wall Street to have a chat with banker, LGBT equality entrepreneur and founder of Out Leadership – Todd Sears. Find out how he thinks Australian coffee compares to American coffee and how many times he hits the snooze button before he wakes up.

MONDAY MOCHA WITH PARVATI SUNDARI

It’s time for the next instalment in the Monday Mocha Series. One of the reasons why I wanted to start this particular series is to help change the attitude and resistance we have towards Monday which is essentially the mentality we go into the week with. By chatting to an inspiring individual, taking time out to have a coffee or a break – it’s a good way to ease into your week.

“Every single person that I’ve ever worked with that I see the light go on and they’re more themselves, that leaves a heart print on me each time.

Here’s our first Aussie who’s actually in Australia. In Episode 12 of The Ginni Show Wednesday podcast, I talked about meeting my first spiritual teacher in a body at a Night Club. Now when I say “in a body,” I’m not saying that other teachers are body-less per say, but I mean that they are in human form. Being raised a Catholic, technically, Jesus was my first spiritual teacher but he wasn’t in a body – I never actually met him in person. This episode we meet my first spiritual teacher – Parvati Sundari. When I met her on the dance floor at The Wharf Hotel in Melbourne, there was an instant connection. It felt like I had known her before. Now, not only is she still a teacher to me, she’s also a wonderful confidant, healer, soul coach and mate. I hope the joy in this interview spreads to your day and your week!

MONDAY MOCHA WITH NICHOLAS STONE

We’re a month into The Monday Mocha Series. I’m loving the responses we’re getting to these so far. Some of you have expressed just how much you’re learning from these coffee dates and it brings me much joy! For those of you who have popped by for the first time to have a cuppa with me – this podcast is a chance to have a break from my Aunties, Ammi and 170 cousins featured on my Wednesday podcast and hear the journey of an inspiring individual from some part of the world. As you all know, I love talking. A lot.  The reason for starting the Monday Mocha podcast is that through the teachings and lessons I have the privilege of sharing with you every week that have come from my teachers; I am still a student in pursuit of more knowledge, self awareness and tools to cultivate more of the good things we need more of in this world. Each Monday, I’ll be having a chat to a guest who has much wisdom to share that we can all benefit from – to light up our day that little bit brighter.

It will literally feel like you’re sitting right there, having coffee with us. So c’mon, let’s have a Mocha!

“I love stories. Something that I absolutely crave is listening to people’s stories; what excites them, what’s their passion and how they’ve dealt with challenges.

The first few Monday Mocha’s of this series were all with New Yorkers. So I guess it’s about time I had a coffee with a fellow Aussie. Who happens to live in New York. Nicholas Stone is the CEO and Founder of Bluestone Lane; a Melbourne inspired coffee shop raising the standard of coffee palates amongst New Yorkers with the true coffee snobbery we seem to have down under. With already a handful of cafes in New York and soon to be three in Philly, the Bluestone love is set to spread across the country.

“Everyday, do something that furthers your career. If you put time into it every single day, it has to grow.”

This week, my guest is someone I’ve been lucky enough to have quite a few Mocha’s (and other beverages) with. One of the hardest working artists I know – pumping out new music frequently, slaying it on social media and gigging all over the world. Some have dubbed her the “Queen of House Music,” and a voice that could fill an entire stadium; Inaya shares her pearls of wisdom with us over coffee.

MONDAY MOCHA WITH NOAH MICHELSON

Week Two of The Monday Mocha Series. “I was 28 when I wanted a new career. You’re never too old to try something new. If you’re 29 or 48 or 52 and you wanna do something – I say go do it.”

My guest this week is one of my favourite people in media. He is simply adorable and amidst his crazy busy schedule, he always makes time to see me when I’m in New York. From landing in New York with a Poetry Degree and $80,000 in debt, Noah volunteered his time to work as an intern for Out Magazine during the day, and took up odd jobs to pay rent in the evenings. Now, he heads up the Huffington Post Queer Voices Section as Executive Editor. Anyway, enough spoilers from me. Have a listen.

MONDAY MOCHA WITH CLAUDE SILVER

Kicking of the first of The Monday Mocha Series today. It’s a chance to have a break from my Aunties, Ammi and 170 cousins and hear the journey of an inspiring individual from some part of the world. As you all know, I love talking. A lot. It’s very apparent with the regular Wednesday podcasts.

Side note – I know my Melbourne peeps are probably throwing me a bit of shade and judgement with their coffee palates. I hear you. But I stand true to the fact that a Mocha is a REAL coffee.

“I would rather teach and coach someone to take up space in the room and be big in the room than dealing with a fearful ego.”

My first guest is the world’s first Chief Heart Officer – Claude Silver. She’s not quite the conventional Heart Surgeon as her title may imply, but her procedural and operating skills on the heart have a different kind of touch to the scalpel and defribulator. Claude’s role is to assist in building the best human empire in the history of time by building a space where employees feel physically and psychologically safe to be their best selves. She coaches and guides to touch the lives of those who work at VaynerMedia – one of the hottest digital agencies in the world, each and every day.
